Language & Literacy
Reading: Continue to enjoy the Oxford Reading Tree, home reading books. Remember to use your decoding skills to help you read new words. Try to change your book daily!
Writing: Our focus for this term is poetry. Children will enjoy writing simple poems to celebrate the seasonal changes and special occasions using describing words.
Phonics: Our Jolly letter sounds and actions ou/ow, oi, ue, er, ar
Spelling: Middle ‘u’ words and middle ‘o’ words.
Maths Mastery
Unit 7: Exploring calculation strategies within 20
- Using part-whole understanding of related facts to derive teens facts
- Using doubles to derive near doubles
- Representing the ‘Make ten’ strategy using a bead string
- Understanding the = symbol as an indication of equivalence
- Unit 8: Numbers to 50

World Around Us.
Theme and topic: Yum, Yum, Yum.
Children will celebrate pancake Tuesday.
Children will sort a range of food and decide if they come from a plant or an animal.
Explore what food is available in different parts of the world.
Science investigation being carried out: Growing a plant – Children will predict, observe and record how a range of seeds grow in different environments.
Religious Education
Theme 5 Spring
Theme 6. We listen to stories about Jesus.
Theme 7. Holy week and Easter.
We will celebrate the feast of St. Patrick. We will learn about the Lenten journey and we will remember less fortunate children around the world as we collect money for Trocaire.
Personal Development & Mutual Understanding
Our topic is ‘Getting Along with Others.’ We will talk about special people in our lives. We will talk about why they are special to us. We will talk about how we are all different and how we should respect each other.
The Arts
Music: Children will listen to and perform a range of Irish traditional music in preparation for our St Patricks day concert.
Art: Children will explore the different shapes and textures of fruit through printing.
Drama: Story of St. Patrick. Children will explore characters in their shared reading books through character hot seating.
Physical Education
Gaelic – children will develop their fundamental skills of Gaelic Football, with our Gaelic Coach on Tuesday.
Daily Mile. Children will improve their fitness by exploring the different ways to complete the daily mile.
